Molly Boyle's Story
Molly Boyle:
I’m here with my daughter Molly and Molly’s story goes back to about 2006 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It all started when I had headaches and they got worse so that’s when they had me get an MRI and that’s when they found it. The surgery was very traumatic. It left me mute, paralyzed. I had to go in and get radiation and chemo, which really bothered me. I went to OT, PT and speech. And Molly kind of did a great recovery until she the tumor came back. I was expecting the brain tumor to be just like the first one. I was so afraid. It was much better. And it came back again. So up to the place where I was depressed.
And I fell down the stairs. That’s why I’m in the wheelchair. fought back and I am doing more than I did before. I graduated from MCTC, Minneapolis Community and Technical College, with an associate degree. I’m learning how to be independent by doing my own laundry, scheduling my time, and doing stuff on my own, getting my own rides. So that’s why we’re here, part of Molly’s lived with us through the whole experience up until just a couple months ago, which is when she moved here. And part of the goal of this is to give you independence, give her time to practice. But as of 2014, you are stable, so that’s great. My greatest desire for Molly is that each and every day she’s happy.
My second greatest desire for Molly is that she eventually, I know she would like to move out into her own apartment, whatever kind of living situation that is, she’ll probably always need some assistance, but if there’s a place that Molly can go where most of her day she can make all her own decisions and take care of herself and then for the parts of the day where she needs help, somebody is there and that you can get up every day and feel like you have value and what you do offers value. As a mom, that’s it. I got my degree in human services or social services so that I could just make people happy. I love you. I love you too.
